ANGLICAN-INFORMATION reports with a sense of relief that at last the Archbishop of Canterbury is finally stepping in to condemn the actions of Bishop Nolbert Kunonga in Zimbabwe. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, authorised a condemnation of dissident Anglican bishop Nolbert Kunonga today(14th January) after police in Zimbabwe used force to intervene and stop official Anglican church services from going ahead, as reported by us in our recent releases. Dr Williams is reported as saying he was "appalled" by reports of Zimbabwe police forcibly stopping Anglican church services where parishes, clergy and people have publicly refused to leave the Province of Central Africa and join Kunonga’s new ‘Province’. Meanwhile in the same Province Archbishop Williams’ reply to the beleaguered faithful laity of the Diocese of Lake Malawi is still awaited. Their open letter published to him on 19th November last year appealing for justice in the Lake Malawi case is still awaiting reply, how much more difficult the situation there has to get before Lambeth responds is hard to fathom. A Statement from the Secretary General of the Anglican Communion Anglican Communion Office Press Release The situation with respect to the Anglican Church in Harare is a matter of grave concern to all in the Anglican Communion. Bishop Kunonga's close ties with President Robert Mugabe is of deep concern to many and the resort to violent disruption has been widely deplored. His unilateral actions with respect to the Diocese of Harare and his own status within the Province of Central Africa are, to say the least, questionable and have brought embarrassment to many. Above all, I am concerned for the well-being of faithful Anglicans who seek to practice their faith in peace and free from violence. We assure Bishop Sebastian Bakare of our prayerful support in this difficult situation, and it is my firm hope that the Province of Central Africa will be enabled to find a way forward at this anxious time. The Revd Kenneth Kearon, Secretary General Office of Communications,
